National Rescue Pet Day 7 March – Together for Homeless Animals

Löytöeläinpäivä 7.3. – yhdessä kodittomien eläinten hyväksi - RUFFY

Pets are an essential part of our everyday lives. They are family members, companions, and loyal friends. Because pets bring so much joy to people, it is heartbreaking to think how many animals end up homeless at some point in their lives.

The welfare of homeless animals is close to Ruffy’s heart, as every pet deserves a loving and safe life.

On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the National Rescue Pet Day will be observed, and we want to take part:

Thu 5 March – Sun 8 March 2026, we will donate 10% of all sales to the Helsinki Humane Society (HESY).

Rescue Pet Day Reminds Us of Responsibility

On Rescue Pet Day, HESY reminds us that getting a pet comes with a responsibility that lasts for the animal’s entire natural lifespan.

Adopting a pet should be carefully considered, and one must be prepared to commit to the pet, its responsibilities, expenses, and possible challenges. Abandoning a pet is an animal welfare offense, just like mistreating a pet, HESY reminds.

A responsible owner also ensures their pet is properly identified and registered in an appropriate database. If a pet goes missing and ends up at an animal shelter, the registry information allows the owner to be contacted quickly.

The Helsinki Humane Society – A Long History of Helping Animals

The Helsinki Humane Society was founded in 1874. Its core mission is the care and rehoming of homeless animals.

During 2025, HESY cared for approximately 670 individual animals. Animals arrive at the HESY center through various routes: some are taken into custody by authorities, some come from other animal welfare organizations, and a growing number are stray animals arriving through the Viikki animal shelter operated by HESY. (HESY 2026)

Most of HESY’s animals are cats, dogs, and rabbits. They are cared for by trained animal caretakers every day of the year. Before finding a new home, the animals are dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered or spayed. At HESY, rehoming is always done with the animal’s best interest as the top priority. (HESY 2026)

Why Is This Important to Us?

Ruffy’s values are built around animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. Animal shelter work is long-term, responsible work that provides homeless animals with safety, care, and the opportunity for a new beginning.

With this campaign, we want to participate and support this valuable work in a concrete way.

How to Participate

Support HESY’s work with us! During the campaign period, participating is simple:
